Medications availability and safety

 Shortages of drugs

There are sometimes national shortages of medicines that can impact on our ability to prescribe.    Further information is provided here but may not reflect the current situation locally:

Epipen and Emerade

For patients who have been issued with either Epipen and Emerade products, the following links to the manufacturer websites may be helpful in demonstrating how they should be used:

Epipen    http://www.epipen.co.uk

Emerade http://www.emerade-bausch.co.uk

Safety and monitoring of drugs

When Medicine Safety Alerts are received by the practice,  we may contact patients who have been prescribed specific medicines in order to make them aware and discuss any action to be taken.

The Independent Medicines and Medical Devices Safety (IMMDS) Review is investigating three medical interventions where patients have reported problems and suffered serious harm:

  • Pelvic mesh
  • Primodos
  • Sodium Valproate

The Review wishes to ensure that any individual or family affected by these three interventions is aware of its work and has the opportunity to make contact or provide evidence.  For further information, please contact the IMMDS Review communications team at reviewcomms@luther.co.uk  or on 0207 618 9189.
